Mystic Seaport Museum celebrates fall and Halloween this year with Halloween Happenings, three family-friendly events spread over eight days, with the highlight being a Jack-o-Lantern Walk through the Museum grounds.

Sailor Made: Folk Art of the Sea Dives Deep into the Museum’s Collection to Explore the Rich and Surprising Creativity of the American Seafarer
When sailors went to sea in the 19th century, they faced difficult working conditions, cramped personal space onboard ship, and voyages that at times could stretch for months or even years. Sailor Made: Folk Art of the Sea, a new exhibition opening September 18 in the Museum's C.D. Mallory Building, explores the art that emerged out of this working world, In association with its new exhibition, A Way with Wood: Celebrating Craft, Mystic Seaport Museum will host Woodcraft Weekend August 29-30. Independent craftspeople and woodworkers will be spread throughout the Museum grounds displaying their projects and products, and providing demonstrations for visitors.

Mystic Seaport Museum will hold its annual Antique Marine Engine Exposition Saturday and Sunday, August 15-16.
A collection of more than 150 antique marine engines will be on display, including inboards, outboards, gasoline, diesel, electric, and naphtha engines. The event is one of the largest gatherings of marine engines in the country.
Workshops and activities will be held throughout the event, which is set in the Museum’s Henry B. duPont Preservation Historic square-rigger will depart Mystic Seaport Museum for two weeks of sail training and sea trials in New London before making journey to her home port
Plymouth, Massachusetts (July 15, 2020) – Plimoth Plantation, the living history museum of 17th century Massachusetts, is delighted to announce that MAYFLOWER II, its 64-year-old historic reproduction of the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the shores of historic Patuxet in 1620, will begin the voyage home to Massachusetts on July 20, 2020.

Mystic Seaport Museum will open a new exhibition, A Way with Wood: Celebrating Craft, on July 3, 2020.The show will introduce visitors to the many ways people transform one of nature’s most malleable materials to objects of utility, art, and beauty. Mystic Seaport Museum announced today the Greenwich Hospitality Group (GHG) will delay for one year construction of the new Delamar Mystic Hotel.
Citing the economic and market uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GHG decided to push out the project 12 months. The 26-room boutique hotel and restaurant is to be built on Museum property that is the present site of Latitude 41 Restaurant & Tavern. The project
Mystic Seaport Museum announced today it is temporarily closing to the public beginning tomorrow, March 13, to support the State of Connecticut’s efforts to stem the outbreak of COVID-19. All programs, classes, and events during that period are also cancelled. The Museum anticipates reopening March 30, subject to further evaluation of the situation.

Mystic, CT (November 11, 2019) — The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has received a grant from The Edward and Mary Lord Foundation of Norwich that will advance the Coogan Farm project that began five years ago when the Center acquired the property.

Mystic Seaport Museum is celebrating 40 years of its holiday performance, Lantern Light Tours with a nod to past productions and a return to classic holiday themes.
A Mystic holiday tradition, Lantern Light Tours is a progressive play that weaves a heart-warming holiday story in the setting of the historic buildings and vessels of the Museum.
The Lantern Light Tours plot changes every year and the writing and production planning begins early in the spring. This year’s script was written by Rebecca Mystic Seaport Museum and the Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) launched a new three-year partnership in recognition of the enduring importance of museums and libraries to our communities. On behalf of the Museum, the CLC is managing an annual lottery for five free Mystic Seaport Museum Library Memberships, underwritten by the Museum’s Susan Lewin Memorial Library Membership Program.

Mattingly comes to the project with a background in photography and sculpture. Visitors are invited to see the displayed vessels Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An award competition will recognize excellence in restoration, authenticity, and workmanship.This year, Mystic Seaport Museum announces it is honoring the Dark Harbor 20 class owners with the William A. Baker Award. The award is given to promote the awareness and appreciation of fine examples of one-design classes or boats of like kind, and to foster faithful preservation and restoration, and encourage their continued use.

Antique and classic boat organizations throughout the
RUNA, a band that infuses Celtic music with Americana and roots music, will debut its newest music video at Mystic Seaport Museum in advance of its July 13 performance at the Museum’s Arts on the Quad.
RUNA shot the video for the song “The Banks of Newfoundland” on the Joseph Conrad, a full-rigged ship that is a floating exhibition at Mystic Seaport Museum. Visitors to the Museum can see the video on screens located at the North and South Museum entrances beginning Monday, July 8.
The song is about the Mystic Seaport Museum announced today proposed changes to its grounds that will advance the Museum’s role as a leader in the maritime heritage field.
The three projects include construction of an underwater research and education center in partnership with the Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration (GFOE), the expansion of public display of its watercraft collection, and construction of a restaurant and boutique hotel.

America’s Leading Maritime Museum Rebrands

A New England holiday tradition, Lantern Light Tours is a 70-minute progressive play that is set on Christmas Eve in 1876. Featuring actors from Connecticut and neighboring states, the cast weaves a heart-warming holiday story in the setting of the historic buildings and vessels of the Museum.
The Lantern Light Tours plot is changed every Mystic, CT – Mystic Seaport will open “Contemporary American Marine Art: The 17th National Exhibition of the American Society of Marine Artists” Saturday, October 14. This juried show features the works of marine artists recognized by the Society as the best in contemporary marine art.
The exhibition includes 120 works of painting, sculpture, and scrimshaw from the nation’s leading marine artists. This year marks the 165th anniversary of America’s oldest collegiate athletic competition: the Harvard-Yale Regatta, which took place for the first time in 1852 and is now rowed on the Thames River in New London, close to Mystic. Mystic, CT – Mystic Seaport announced today it has received a $1 million gift from the Thompson Family Foundation to support the Thompson Exhibition Building, the Museum’s first new exhibition building in more than four decades. The Thompson Building opened to visitors on September 24, 2016.

Theatrical Performances Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe
Mystic, CT – Mystic Seaport announces the return of its Halloween production, Nautical Nightmares, beginning October 16.
The performance is a dramatic experience that explores ghost tales, legends and unsolved mysteries of days gone by. Mystic, CT – Mystic Seaport announced today that it has been awarded a $199,806 grant by the National Park Service, in partnership with the Maritime Administration (MARAD), to support the restoration of its 1908 steamboat Sabino. Mystic – Mystic Seaport has promoted Elysa Engelman to be the Museum’s new Director of Exhibits.
Engelman will be responsible for creating and delivering an ongoing program of dynamic, interdisciplinary exhibits that attract diverse audiences and introduce new scholarship and content in support of the Museum’s mission and strategic vision. She will direct all aspects of exhibit design and production.

Mystic – Mystic Seaport celebrates its reopening on Presidents Day Weekend with Winter’s Aweigh beginning Saturday, February 14. Children ages 17 and under will be admitted for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
A special feature this year is the replica ship Mayflower II, which is being restored in the Museum’s Shipyard. Visitors can view the ship and go on board Mystic Seaport announces a gift of $1 million from the Thompson Family Foundation honoring the late Wade Thompson, a Museum trustee for 27 years. This gift directed to a new 14,000 square-foot exhibition building caps an earlier gift from the Thompsons, bringing their total gifts towards this building to $6.6 million. The new building will be named for the Thompson family.
